E is for Equinox: a one-time only public sculpture, performance, and sound installation designed specifically for the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s 100 Acres park. The piece assembled a cast of 70 local guitar players in the forest underneath Type A’s Team Building (Align). On the day of the fall equinox, the musicians began to gently strum the E major power chord. Over the course of a few minutes, the volume and intensity of the chord grew until all players had reached an intense volume and rhythm, transforming the natural space into a charged sonic volcano. Conceptually, the work draws equally from John Cage compositions and Wayne’s World sketches. Stuart Hyatt composed the work and directed the performance.
